Benefits of Using Weatherproof Labels

At Online Labels, we offer our customers many different types of materials including foil, clear, pastel colored, true colors, and the list goes on. We’ve found that there’s one material however, which consistently seems to be a customer favorite; our white weatherproof. This waterproof label is great for both wet and dry applications and holds up to the elements extremely well. The best part is we have the weatherproof material for both laser and inkjet printers!

To help you best determine the type of printer you’re using, or will be using, please visit our article on Laser vs. Inkjet printers. If you already know which kind of printer you have, the following information details the benefits and differences of both inkjet and laser weatherproof label materials.

Laser Weatherproof Polyester

Laser weatherproof material is a bit more consistent than the inkjet because you are not dealing with a top coating. Laser printers use toner which is burned or fused onto the label when fed through the printer. This method of printing tends to be the most reliable when dealing with weather or water. Laser-printed labels usually last longer in an outdoor application because regular ink will sometimes get bleached out by the sun, while laser toner will not.

Inkjet Weatherproof Vinyl

Our inkjet weatherproof material has been a huge success with many of our customers. The weatherproof material is great because it allows you to use your standard inkjet printer. When using an inkjet printer, people often ask “how do you keep the ink from smearing?” Answer: The weatherproof inkjet material is waterproof and the ink from a standard inkjet printer will encapsulate into a specially formulated top-coating upon printing. Once printed, the ink will not smear when touched with a wet hand or soaked in water.

It’s easy to see what the benefits of using weatherproof labels are:

  • Both the vinyl and polyester materials are extremely durable.
  • Both will hold up very well in a wide array of temperatures.
  • No more dealing with harmful and expensive waterproofing sprays.
  • Keep your logo and company information legible on the label so customers can easily reorder.

So why are these materials so popular with our customers? Probably because they can be used for such a wide variety of applications! Here is just a sampling of what our customers are using weatherproof/waterproof labels for:
  • Beer, Wine & Water Bottles - If you bottle your own beer, wine or water and want to customize the bottle label for an event these materials are great. Chilling liquid will often create condensation on the bottle. Condensation or “Sweating” will not affect our weatherproof labels, so you will have a professional look and lasting impression.
  • Bath & Body Product Containers – Most of the time you will find these types of products in the bathroom. If you’re labeling products that will end up in the bathroom or by a sink, then the weatherproof materials will keep your customer happy by not bleeding inks or colors into their bathing area.
  • Food Products and Sauce Bottles – If you make jams, jellies, hot sauce, barbeque sauce, or anything that is in the kitchen the weatherproof products will work for you. The weatherproof materials will withstand a wet hand or the condensation from being in a refrigerator.
  • Outdoor Labels – The outdoors can be a very volatile environment so you need a label that’s tough. Weather its hot, cold, rainy, or sunny our weatherproof labels will hold up to the elements while preserving your message.

Keep in mind that while the weatherproof material in white remains the most popular, many of our customers don’t know there are a few other materials we offer that stand up great to water and weather.

Listed below are some other materials we offer that will hold up to water and weather:
  • CX – Clear Matte for Laser printers – Our matte clear label sheet for laser printing is a slightly frosted polyester material with permanent adhesive.
