Print test sheets on regular copy paper to check the margins on your design

As always, we recommend printing out test sheets of your label designs on regular copy paper before printing on the actual label sheets. Especially for larger print jobs, this gives you the chance to make sure margins are properly aligned and will help you save labels. Once your test sheet is printed out, place it over your label sheet, and hold it up against a strong light, as demonstrated in this video.

All of the templates we provide in Maestro Label Designer have pre-configured margins. However, in some rare cases you may end up with slightly-off print results like these:

That's okay. We've got a few solutions for this.

1

Before printing anything, you'll first need to check your print settings in Adobe Acrobat to make sure that "Auto-Rotate and Center" is unchecked and "Page Scaling" is set to "None." The easiest way to do this is to click "Print" in Maestro Label Designer, and then select "Print / Preview," which should open your design in Adobe Acrobat. Now you can "Print" your test page and configure the settings mentioned above:

2

If the print is still off-center, you'll need a ruler or caliper to measure just how off your design is from the actual label, in inches. Take note of these measurements for later.

Click on the "Page Setup" button in the top toolbar of Maestro Label Designer:

Do some quick math and either add (to move right/down) or subtract (to move left/up) from the already set margins in Maestro Label Designer.

As an example, let's say your design is 0.0625" to the left of the actual label:

As an example, let's say your design is 0.0625" to the left of the actual label.

Take that 0.0625" off-set and add it to the Left Margin of our template in the Page Setup. In this case, OL100 has a left margin of 0.1525" and we need to add 0.0625" to that, giving us a total Left Margin of 0.215". Enter this number into the "Left Margin:" field. Click "OK."

Combine the offset number with the original margin number and enter it into the "Left Margin:" field.

You should now be able to save and print your image correctly with the new margin settings.
