Check the "non-printable margins" on your printer before you start designing

There may be instances where you will attempt to print on the outer-most margins of the label sheet, and end up with something like this:

Example of a label designed with a proper 1/8" bleed.

Or something like this:

Example of a label with improper bleed - borders are tightly designed against the label.

Please note: This issue only affects the outer margins of the sheet. All other labels that lie within the printable margin area should print as expected.

Unfortunately, most common household printers don't have the ability to print to the full edge of the label sheet. Since each printer brand and model is unique, we recommend that you check your printer's manual to see if they have any solutions to overcome this issue – some printers have a "borderless print" option.

If that doesn't work, we suggest slightly modifying the label design to account for these non-printable margins. To find the maximum printable area of your printer, we've developed a tool that does all the work for you (almost!) - Check out our Printer Margin Tool.
