5 Easy Ways to Save Money on Printing

Over the past 10 years, we've picked up a few tips to put savings back in your pocket, many of which deal with printing. We thought now would be as good a time as ever to share them with you! Printing supplies can add up quick for any business, so below are 5 ways to cut down on costs.

1. Use your printer's economy setting.

Use Your Printer's Economy Setting

Every time you print out a draft or test page the same amount of ink is used as the finalized product. Consider using your printer’s “Economy Mode” if it isn’t necessary to have the exact appearance of the final. This will make the printed document lighter but still readable while saving you ink or toner.

To do this when printing, select the “Preference Settings” option in the “Print” dialogue box. Look for the Economy Mode (also known as Draft Mode, Toner Saver, Fast Mode) setting, and select it accordingly. This way you will save ink on documents that do not need full output.

2. Print two sheets on each page.

Print Two Pages on Each Sheet

Printing on both sides of a sheet illustrationGranted, you can’t do this with our label sheets, but printing two pages on each sheet is a great way to cut down on ink and paper for documents that don’t require a full sheet. Each page will get reduced in size and rotated 90 degrees, so that two pages fit into one document - very similar to a booklet.

You can locate the option in Word and Adobe Reader from the Print menu - see illustration for further information. In other programs that don’t, such as an internet browser, you can do this through the “page layout” or “page scaling” option.

3. Buy discounted printer ink.

Buy Discounted Printer Ink

We recommend this option when you print out documents containing text only. Instead of purchasing pricey, name brand cartridges, you can opt to buy remanufactured cartridges, which will often yield more prints!

Please note, these cartridges may not have the same high print quality, which can affect labels that are printed with pictures or logos.

4. Print to PDF.

Anytime there isn’t an urgent need to print a document, save it into PDF form and create a filing system right on your computer’s hard drive. 5. Make sure your printer fits your needs.

Make Sure Your Printer Fits Your Needs

Make sure your printer fits your needsWhen purchasing a printer you need to keep in mind how you will be using it. If you need a high quality print only every so often then you may want to invest in an inkjet printer. A laser printer might be your best choice if you’re printing quite frequently.
