Keep text objects or copy a minimum of 1/8" away from the edge of the label

Most printers on the market may experience "paper-shifting," which can cause label sheets to move around in printer trays. This will cause some designs to be printed slightly off-cue, like in the photo below. Fortunately, there are a few easy guidelines that you can follow to minimize the chance of this problem affecting your prints.

Example of a printed label, with the effects of paper-shifting shown.

If you notice your printer is causing sheets to move around in the printer tray, we recommend keeping a space of approximately 1/8" between any copy, text, or objects and the edge of the label in your designs, as shown in the examples below:

Also, to minimize the possibility of "paper-shifting," ensure that your label sheets are properly loaded into the printer. To do this, confirm that all sheets are tightly squared and level, both lengthwise and across, as illustrated below:

If your design contains any outer-edge borders, read the next tip about how to properly implement the use of "bleed" in your designs to help eliminate the effects of "paper-shifting."
